I’ve been setting the books we’ve been reading on an upper shelf of the bookcase. It’s helping us to “see” some of our former favourites that we haven’t read lately. We had a smooth morning but Reid wasn’t interested in staying still, not even to use the potty, and so reading wasn’t on the agenda. This evening, though, she was more receptive and we read:
- The Potty Book for girls by Alyssa Satin Capucilli which I have written about before. It took me back to when we were really trying to get Reid to think about staying dry all day, or at least when she was with us since she was dry at daycare since May;
- Zoom, Zoom, Poppy Cat by Lara Jones, when Ken pulled it off the pile he commented that he hadn’t read it in a while. There were days that we read it several times in a day or days in a row;
- Olivia forms a band by Ian Falconer, in which Olivia (gasp) wears a blue top and tights instead of her usual red, white and black;
- Many Hands Counting Book by Brita Granstrom, one of our Discover Toys Reading Together at Home books. I like that the story is set in a daycare or maybe kindergarten and that there are kids of many shapes, sizes and colours rather than an all-white family as is the case with most of our books;
- Blue Hat, Green Hat by Sandra Boynton, which appeals to Reid’s sense of humour because she knows where clothes should be worn and that silly turkey puts them on the wrong body part;
- This month’s Chirp: The Bedtime Fun issue; and
- Good Night, Little One: A lift-the-flap book by Salina Yoon, a bedtime book at bedtime, no less.
