We read:
- In the Small, Small Pond by Denise Fleming, a book with pond animals and drama – will the frog get eaten?;
- Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert but the listing of flowers is too complicated for us yet, maybe next year we’ll use it to guide us in planting bulbs and buying seeds;
- In the Tall, Tall Grass by Denise Fleming, Reid really likes the caterpillar who leads us through the grass;
- Super Toupie (text in French) by Dominique Jolin, a book that is the basis for Toupy and Binoo, one of the tv shows that Reid likes to watch, but which didn’t make much of an impression on her;
- If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff, a book I’ve been wanting to read for a while but I am not sure if it is beyond Reid or whether she just wasn’t in the mood but she didn’t seem particularly interested.
We also read a few of the poem in Poetry Speaks to Children, including:
- The First Book by Rita Dove;
- The Quarrel by Maxine Kumin;
- Letter to Bee by Emily Dickinson;
- Hurt No Living Think by Christina Rossetti; and
- Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost, a poem my class recited in grade 8.
