Actually …
June 1, 2007 by Barbara.
The latest tool in Reid’s linguistic toolbox is “actually” and she is using it a lot lately. Imagine a girl and her daddy snuggled together reading a book. Imagine the daddy describing what the hippopotamuses are doing. Then imagine a sweet, clear voice saying, “Actually, that one is a rhinocerous.” You won’t have to stretch your imagination to see the mama sitting in the rocking chair trying not to laugh. Reid is always gentle and helpful when she corrects us. It’s rather amusing since she is solemn, knowledgeable and TWO. I think this one might be attributable to me. When read will say that something is the same as something else, I will agree that the two things are similar but the new one is ACTUALLY something else. I’m trying to add clarity without telling her that she is wrong outright. Maybe I need to phrase things differently.
Have a great day. Even if, actually, the weather is disgusting.

Books we read, June 1st
June 1, 2007 by Barbara.
Grandma Joyce and Uncle Roger kept Reid home from daycare today and so I know what Reid had read to her as well as what we read before and after:
- Franklin and the Babysitter based on the tv episode by Nicola Barton, I’m not sure about books based on tv episode but I wasn’t the one who read it and when I bought it from the Scholastic flyer, I didn’t know about the tv tie-in;
- Barney & Baby Bop Go to School;
- Frosty the Snowman adapted from the song of the same name, retold by Annie North Bedford, read many times by Grandma Joyce, especially the last two pages (she could recite them by the time I got home) and once by me;
- Carry Me! by Rosemary Wells;
- You Are My I Love You by Maryann K Cusimano;
- Babybug May/June 2006;
- Babybug January 2007;
- Babybug October 2006;
- Hedgie’s Surprise by Jan Brett;
- Daisy Comes Home by Jan Brett, there was a Brett value-pack in the Scholastic flyer;
- Splish Splash by Gail Herman;
- Up on Daddy’s Shoulder by Matt Berry; and
- The Fire Station by Robert Munsch.
