Books we read, June 2nd
June 2, 2007 by Barbara.
I’ve been scribbling book titles and author names on scraps of paper for weeks and will, at some point, get them transcribed but thought I’d better do today’s books while they’re fresh. EDITED When I got home, Grandma Joyce was sitting on the porch and she told me about how Ken had sat and read to Reid for an hour or more before supper and that as soon as supper was over, Reid asked him to read again. Grandma Joyce was impressed that Reid was willing to sit and read so long and that she was lucky to have a daddy who would sit and do it for so long. Most of these books, were read by Ken but Grandma Joyce and Uncle Roger and I pitched in a bit, too:
- Chicka Chicka 1-2-3 by Bill Martin Jr, we didn’t enjoy this one as much as Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. It’ll be better once Reid learns more numbers, maybe;
- Stella: Star of the Sea by Marie-Louise Gay, I like the illustrations and the story about the little boy with his questions and the sister with all of the answers but I don’t like it that they are swimming without an adult in sight. We’ll have something to talk about, I guess;
- Armadillo Rodeo by Jan Brett;
- Put Me in the Zoo by Robert Lopshire;
- Where’s Spot by Eric Hill;
- Frosty the Snowman, adapted from the song of the same name, retold by Annie North Bedford, which isn’t it all like the tv show except for the snowman that comes to life being called Frosty. It was in the box of my toys and books that Grandma Joyce brought;
- Jumping Day by Barbara Juster Esbensen;
- Elusive Moose by Joan Gannij;
- What Do Animals Do on the Weekend? Adventures from A to Z by Lauren Faulkenberry;
- No Milk! by Jennifer Ericsson;
- Ella Sarah Gets Dressed by Margaret Chodos-Irvine, which I love for how spunky Ella Sarah is;
- Buster by Denise Fleming;
- New Cat by Yangsook Choi;
- Parents in the Pigpen, Pigs in the Tub by Amy Ehrlich;
- Barney & Baby Bob Go To School by Mark S. Bernthal;
- The Monster at the End of This Book: Starring lovable, furry old Grover by Jon Stone, another book from my childhood;
- You are My Miracle by Maryann Cusimano Love, a book about Christmas that is very similar to You Are My I Love You by the same author, with some parts being exactly the same; and
- Time for Bed by Mem Fox.
