It was a good day for reading. We read:
- Baby MacDonald on the Farm, a Baby Einstein that she can just about recite it. Her hands move quickly to the parts of the page that are to be touched;
- Toddlers’ First Pop-Up Book, illustrated by Lisa Carr, with the sort of farm animals that are just begging to be embroidered – if only I could remember to trace them for Grandma Joyce;
- Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman, with Reid’s assistance for many of the words;
- My Friend Rabbit by Eric Rohmann, a Caldecott Medal winner that Ken summarized as “bizarre”;
- Big Smelly Bear by Britta Teckentrup, a book that I thought we might pull out when Reid resists bathing, especially;
- Mom Mine! by Dawn Apperley, I had to laugh that all these months after first getting the book, Reid still flips the book around when she sees the bats hanging upside-down from the branch;
- Clifford’s Spring Clean-up by Norman Bridwell, twice, in which Clifford’s efforts at helping sometimes cause more work (like what sometimes happens when Reid helps ;+) It references Earth Day and so we’ll have to remember to read it next month;
- Spot Can Count by Eric Hill, with flaps for Reid to lift, always a welcome feature;
- The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton, that Reid used to demonstrate how good her memory is and how mine is not so good. As the animals are getting into their pajamas, the bear is looking into a drawer and Reid pointed to the red pajamas at the far side of the drawer and said that the bear would wear them. I said, “we’ll see” and sure enough, on the next page, the bear was wearing red pajamas; and
- Care Bears Nighty Night (no author), a favourite last book before light’s out.
